For simulations to be realistic, they must reproduce the environment and tools that the surgeon is familiar with. Organs should look and feel realistic. Virtual patients should respond when treatment is applied.
The Surgical Simulation Laboratory uses specialized hardware to improve the realism of many of its simulations. Some of the equipment is modeled to resemble surgical tools, and have haptic feedback. Others can provide realistic physiological responses and will react according to the type of treatment administered. Click below for more details.
