| Mark W. Bowyer, MD, FACS, COL, MC, USAF | ||

Dr. Bowyer is the Surgical Director of the National Capital Area Medical Simulation Center. He is also an Associate Professor of Surgery, and the Chief, Division of Trauma and Combat Surgery at the Uniformed Services University. He is board certified in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and actively practices trauma surgery at the Washington Hospital Center. Dr. Bowyer is the current Chair (Air Force), American College of Surgeons Military Region Committee on Trauma. He has been on the forefront of adopting the use of surgical simulators as a replacement for animals in the teaching of the Advanced Trauma Life Support course. Dr. Bowyer has been involved in the teaching of medical students and residents since 1990. He is integrally involved in developing simulation based curriculum for medical students starting their surgical rotation. Dr. Bowyer has an ongoing interest and involvement in developing and validating robust trauma, laparoscopic, triage, and critical care based simulators.

Ms. Fellows is the coordinator of the simulated operating room at the SimCen. She controls the MedSim and SimMan Patient Simulators in various settings providing the most realistic training experiences for the students at the USU. She received her BA in Psychology at Washington College in Chestertown MD and is a volunteer EMT at the Bethesda Chevy Chase Rescue Squad. Before joining the Simulation Center in the winter of 2002 she was a medical assistant at an urgent care center in Vienna, VA.

Dr. Kaufmann was the first director of the Surgical Simulation Laboratory (SSL). He is also a Professor of Surgery, and Chief, Division of Trauma and Combat Surgery. Dr. Kaufmann was instrumental in the development of simulator-based training curriculum for trauma at the university. He is board certified in both general surgery and surgical critical care. He served as Chair, American College of Surgeons Military Region Committee on Trauma, with responsibility for all Advanced Trauma Life Support® courses taught in the U.S. military. Dr. Kaufmann has previously served as the Director, Division of Trauma and Emergency Medical Systems, US Public Health Service.
Dr. Kaufmann is a founding member of the NCA Medical Simulation Center.
| Thomas Ritchie | ||

Mr. Ritchie was the course coordinator for the SSL from December 1999 to June 2002. He was responsible for the logistics and management of courses conducted at the SSL and related facilities. Mr. Ritchie was also responsible for programming and operating the OR mannequins according to course requirements. He was the Uniformed Services University Program Coordinator for Advanced Trauma Life Support. Mr. Ritchie was an affiliate faculty member of the Military Training Network. He was responsible for developing a new 911 program for the Emergency Medical Services department at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico.
Mr. Ritchie is a founding member of the NCA Medical Simulation Center.
